Artist Statement
I discovered how much I loved to make visual art after moving from my homeland, England, to the USA in 1992 with my American husband, Jack Pasanen. I had completed an education and career in the world of dance as a dancer, choreographer and dance educator. When I arrived in the USA, I enrolled in an evening class for beginning watercolor painting and just got hooked. However, my love for watercolor painting expanded and I watched with fascination as my painting style evolved into prize-winning mixed media and collage. I set myself the challenge of finding a way to combine my new love of collaging with my steadfast love of dance. The two framed pieces in the Fisher Gallery represent two pieces resulting from of this journey. I have explored my love of the visual imagery and physical energy of dance in a variety of ways. Sometimes I focus on just the complex linear relationships of choreography and sometimes my focus is on translating physical energy visually. I have loved this journey and I hope that my work captures it well.
