Carol Kaplan’s mixed media artwork is largely informed by a variety of materials which ranges from metal and wood to fiber and fabric. Color, texture, pattern, and design set the foundation, and she often works in series of pieces that tell chapters of the same story.
Carol has shown her work in juried exhibitions throughout the state of CT, from small galleries to the New Britain Museum of American Art. She is a retired art teacher and has taken on many leadership positions including her current position as Executive Director of the Farmington Valley Arts Center.

Artist Statement
I use found objects and common materials to create visual narratives. Every object possesses a unique history and as I group them together a collective narrative begins to evolve. Sometimes I articulate an idea or concept that is fully formed in my head, but most times the manipulation of pieces reveals the story.
People often ask me where I get my materials; junk shops, tag sales, donations, “gifts”, and treasures from the natural world. What I love most about the work is the process of transforming prosaic materials into pieces that communicate a new story enriched with a patina of the past.
